presentation title: smart grid of the future
abstract
electric energy is one of the major forms of energy utilization. with the development of clean energy generation technologies, integrating clean energy sources in power generation and delivery is one of the important methods to improve energy efficiency. however, the high penetration of intermittent and non-dispatchable renewable energy generation in power grids increases the requirement of power balance control. traditional power systems are challenged by higher requirements on real-time control and information communication. the concept smart grid is a number of new technologies applied in power industry, including renewable energy integration, distributed generation technologies, latest information and communication technologies, smart distribution systems, and smart home technologies. in this presentation, we are going to introduce the current situation of smart grid technologies, the challenges of smart grid, smart grid technology application in power distribution and customer sides.
biography
dr. jin zhong received her b.sc. degree from tsinghua university, beijing, china, and the ph.d degree from chalmers university of technology, gothenburg, sweden. she is an associate professor in the department of electrical and electronic engineering at the university of hong kong. her areas of interest are smart grid, electricity sector deregulation, ancillary service pricing, and power system operation.
